Water softeners are devices engineered to minimize the hardness of water. Water hardness is caused by high levels of dissolved minerals, primarily both calcium and magnesium. These minerals can cause a number of problems, such as build-up in pipes and appliances, and uncomfortable skin and hair. Water softeners operate by using a process called
